Powderfinger has recently poked its head out of their Australian pouch and into the airwaves of modern rock stations across America. The band formed in 1992 amidst the sub-tropical climate and ultra-conservative "deep north" politics of Brisbane.
Though originally a trio, Powderfinger soon added two more members to its successful cover band formula, performing the likes of the Rolling Stones, The Doors, Led Zeppelin and Neil Young (they even lifted the name from one of Young's songs).
The band soon matured and began writing and performing their own songs. The combination of grassroots street promotion and constant touring landed Powderfinger a major deal with Polydor Records around 1994.
After two nearly unnoticed EPs, the band set out to record their breakthrough album, Double Allergic. The singles "Pick You Up" and "DAF" gained airplay support, propelling Allergic into the top ten in September 1996 which ultimately resulted in the album going double platinum.
Powderfinger released Internationalist, the follow-up to Allergic in 1996. After conquering Australian airwaves, the band has set its sight on America, hoping to make a splash with the release of their latest album, Odyssey Number Five.
