Neko Case IS the sexiest woman in indie rock

Somebody sent me a link to this and I was amused. Haven't seen a Playboy in many years, but apparently they had a poll for the sexiest woman in indie rock. You could vote for women like Caithlin of Rainer Maria, Chan Marshall (Cat Power), Sarah of Black Box Recorder, and all the members of Sahara Hotnights.

Neko Case was the overwhelming winner with over 4500 votes! There is a really amusing interview with the smokey alt-country gal here:

Personally, I would have added Jenny Lewis of Rilo Kiley to the list of nominees.

you know, all this tizzy about Neko Case is interesting. I met her and hung out with her about 7 or 8 years ago. She was touring with Cub at the time, filling in for the absent drummer. I was the second-in-command on my college's Social Board and we had arranged for Cub to play at an event. So, my friend and I were the hosts for the day (this was actually the second time we had gotten cub to come to campus.....back then i wasn't shy about wielding any and all power I had - I also wrangled Velocity Girl and Fuzzy for one concert and Scrawl for another...). We went out to lunch, gave them a tour of the house I was living in (complete with its vagina room....I lived in the women's center and one room was completely painted in Georgia O'Keefe style flower/vaginas....but it was executed verrrrrry poorly and just mostly looked vaguely obscene), and went out to dinner and to a party. It was fun. Back then I think Neko was still in a band called Maow and lived in Vancouver. She was really nice and fun to hang out with, but I remember being vaguely disappointed that Cub's regular drummer wasn't there. Who knew Neko would branch out in such a way? Pretty cool though.

Richmond VA, you almost made me piss my pants. I'm not sure if that is a fair comparison, but I get your point. I think Jenny is adorable, but maybe she's not exactly sexy. It's really not my fault...I prefer the sexy guys of indie rock. :-D

In any case, maybe Neko should pose for Playboy. Those Kutie shots are really lovely.

Don't get me wrong though. I've made no secret of my great attraction to Jenny Lewis. She's just more of a thinking man's babe.

if vogue magazine did a 'most stylish woman in indie rock' poll, it would have to go to jenny lewis. everytime i see her, it looks like she was dressed by the fashion editor of vogue. she's got the thrift store vintage retro 80's yet modernized look down pat. to use courtney love terminology, she looks like a goddess.

In my opinion she's a hottie (ha! I just said "hottie"!) and her voice is very cool.

If I had to choose purely based on looks I'd probably go with Annie. If I had to choose between Jenny Lewis and Neko Case I'd take Neko Case. Her voice is just hauntingly beautiful on every level I can think of.

Anyone else remember Toni Halliday of Curve? I don't know what she looks like these days--it's hard to find any pics of her--but disregarding her often goth hair and makeup, she had a classically beautiful face.
