David Brent...meet Homer Simpson...

This looks like a great idea...

(From Variety)

"The Office" creator and star Ricky Gervais has landed his next TV gig: Penning an episode of "The Simpsons."

Gervais is already at work scripting the episode at the personal invitation of "Simpsons" creator Matt Groening. He'll also lend his voice to the episode.

He won't, however, be playing an animated version of David Brent, the paper company regional manager who was at the center of "The Office." Gervais retired the character after filming "The Office" Christmas specials.

Gervais hasn't yet shared the plot for his seg.

"I've got the rough idea, but this is the most intimidating project of my career," Gervais said. "The Simpsons" is the "greatest TV show of all time."

Gervais scored two Golden Globes last year, one for TV actor and the other when "The Office" beat out the competish to win the comedy series nod.

Word of the Gervais-"Simpsons" collaboration came out last week at the British Comedy Awards, where Groening was on hand to pick up the award for international comedy, won by "The Simpsons," while Gervais received a special achievement award for writing.

NBC is set to air a U.S. version of "The Office" later this season.

i'll give the u.s. office version a shot if for nothing else than it's being produced by the same clan that does "king of the hill"

BUT

i'm not holding my breath...especially in this day and age of television.

Come on, Steve Correlle is *AWESOME*

My favorite quote about the US version of Coupling is:

"it's a watered down version of a watered down British version of Friends"

I Loved the Simpsons for their first 10-12 seasons. The past 3 or 4 seasons have been miserable bullcrap, and everyone from Matt Groening on down should be completely ashamed of themselves. Sitting in front of the TV tuned to Fox on Sunday at 8 used to be a ritual. Now, when I infrequently watch a newer episode on Sunday, I am reminded of why I have given up on the Simpsons. Their failure has removed that almost superheroish quality and made them human. Someone needs to be beaten for this
