Chicago boarders/concert-goers?

Been checkin this site out for a little while...first post, though. From the Naperville area and seriously NONE of my friends are into the GOOD music scene. I'm already semi-planning on going to Pitchfork's Intonation Music Fest by myself. Would love to go see Lollapalooza, but that might be too expensive for just me.

My New Years Resolution was to see some good shows. Would love to have people to meet up with in the city.

Members of Snow Patrol will be stopping by aliveOne tonight (5/12) for DJ sets after their show at the Vic. They'll be spinning the tunes in the back room from about 11p - ?. I'll be on the other side of town at the Prefuse 73/Beans show, but could someone request some Reindeer Section for me?

Guess I should chime in as a Chicago concert-goer.

Although, that'll only be for the next couple of months until I'm relegated to SE Michigan concert attendage. Probably one of my only complaints about moving. Chicago's such a kick-ASS concert town.

Sorry I missed the aliveOne deal a while back. Been m.i.a. a bit due to, well, actually having to work. Anyone going to any shows soon? I just saw that Mike Doughty is playing tonight at the Black Orchid and it's sold out. Pissed I missed the boat on that show....

damn...this month has flew by and it's already time for another Radio Free Chicago night. This time around we'll be at Leadway Bar and Gallery (near Damen & Foster) next Friday (5/27) starting at around 9pm.

Besides the usual array of live DJs, we'll also be hosting a mix-tape exchange. Basically, if you bring in a mix, you get to pick another randomly to take home. I know we got some serious music fans with great taste on this board, so I'd love to have a bunch of WOXYers come on out and bring in some hott mixes. (yes that's right, I said hot with 2 't's!)

so mark yer calendars and get crackin' on those mixes this weekend. check out my website for more info on the event.

Well how are y'all doing? I haven't been on the WOXY boards in weeks. I've been busy, unfortunately not going to shows. But I will definitely be at the Pinback show at the Metro on 5/31. Woo hoo! This will be my third time seeing the lads. I can't wait. I'm going to wet myself. I want to have Rob Crow's love children.

God damn it all to hell this sounds like a rockin' good time that I have to miss again. The mix tape exchange is a great idea. Maybe I'll ditch my friend's party early and head out there. Damen and Foster? Is this Andersonville?

was anyone at mia/lcd last week? i wore myself out dancing. but their encore sucked. they shoulda just ended it w/yeah crass.

I'm moving to the Foster/Clark area in a few weeks. Does this mean we shall be neighbors?

I didn't get to go to the LCD/MIA show and I'm mondo upset because that's one of the shows I absolutely did not want to miss. But alas, I did. Thanks for saying that the encore sucked. I hold on to that.

yeah, the encore did suck...James didn't save any of his hits for the encore. He totally blew his wad in the first set. He should have come up with a cover or two, since his back catalog is so thin.

I think my favorite part of the night was the George Bush/Tony Blair video mash up to introduce M.I.A.

Hi Chicago!

I need some help from the Chicago area boarders. I will probably be moving to the Chicago area in the next month and I need some advice. Here are some things you should know:

My company will be paying my rent for the next year.
I will actually be working in Indiana (Gary ) but want to live as close to or in the city as I can without spending most of my day in the train/in the car.
Its just me and my wife - no kids, no pets.
Wife prolly going to take the year off. She is a teacher, may sub from time to time, but nothing serious.

I need suggestions on parts of town to live in.

There seems to be some confusion, so I want to point out the event is for Friday and I haven’t gotten to my tape. Shame on me.

I guess it kind of depends on how much you want to spend? If I were commuting to Gary every day I'd want to take the train (traffic can really stink), so look for an option close to the Metra line. That pretty much means right downtown, which will cost a lot.

A better solution would probably be to find something that's a short elevated train ride away from the Metra station of your choice.

Looks like an express train takes about 40 minutes... Which is not too bad.
