Sucks that I'll be out of town for most of it without access to WOXY. At least I got Monday.

Yeah, I'd like to see a little more newer stuff work its way into the mix, especially in the sub-100 crowd. But it was still a lot of fun. And honestly, I'm just glad that there's a MR500 to listen to

I think the issue with new tunes on the 500 is that the alternative or modern rock format just does not create "hits" like it used to, and for the most part, the 500 is a listing of "hits", love it or hate it. I mean, name me a Sufjan Stevens song that's as much of a 'hit' (i.e. rather well known song) as anything on the 500? It's just that the format as a whole is probably more removed from the mainstream than at any time - ever - and the creation of hits kind of depends on their wider appeal.

That's what I think, anyway.

it was too nice outside to catch much of it; i'd like to see the whole list.

the upper numbers are always more interesting than the lower ones, which tend to be the same ones scrambled. that's always the way it is with lists, unless they're way idiosyncratic.

Remember also that we get the 97-Best list at the end of each year, and by definition that's entirely made up of new stuff. The MR500 is more a historical survey. At least, that's what I choose to think.

Many thanks to all the WOXY crew for putting it on again this year! Being stuck working in my office all day Saturday & Sunday was nowhere near as bad since I had the MR500 going the whole time.
